DAY 1: GAGLIATO – LE CASTELLA – CERCHIARA
Departure at 08.00 from Gagliato for Le Castelle. At 09:30, leave for a minicruise on board of “La perla dello Ionio/Ionian sea pearl”.
We pass by and salute the beach “Le Castella” with a brief illustration of the Aragonese Castle’s history and Marine Reserve. We will then continue our route and have our first pause at Capo Rizzuto lighthouse where we can also swim (we will have equipment for those who would like to snorkel). On our way back we will have our second pause to swim at the Sovereto beach, accessible only by sea. Appetizers of local Calabria products will be served (bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, pilchard, grilled eggplants, olives, pecorino cheese and fruit of the season (i.e. figs of India) accompanied by a great wine. At 13:00 we will leave for Cerchiara. At our arrival, you will have relax time at the “Grotta delle Ninfee/Cave of the Nymphs” spa. Dinner will be served by the pool side and we will stay at hotel Villa Santa Maria. 

DAY 2: CERCHIARA – FRASCINETO – ROSSANO - CIRO’ – GAGLIATO
After breakfast we will visit Santa Maria delle Armi sanctuary. We will have lunch in the hotel and depart for Frascineto to visit the Museum of the Traditional Byzantium Icons. We will then leave for Rossano where we will visit the Diocesan Museum where the famous Codex Purpureus Rossanensis is preserved. Following the museum we will continue our trip to Cirò and visit the wine cellar Senatore Vini. After dinner, we will depart for Gagliato.

ESCURSION TO STILO AND KAULON

Early morning departure from Gagliato to Stilo.  Upon our arrival to Stilo, visit the Byzantium center that is at the center accessible through the antique walls across the “Porta Reale”. We will have a brief stop at the Duomo/Cathedral, built back in 1300, embellished by the magnificent Romanesque-Gothic pointed portal. Continue our visit of the mountain rock caves called "La Pastorella" and look over the the ancient Byzantine monastic paths. Free Lunch (you are on your own). In the afternoon visit the famous "Cattolica di Stilo", a rare example of Byzantine art in Italy. Then visit the archaeological site and museum of Kaulon which is located just outside the town of Monasterace Marina, where we will see the relics and remains of the Magna Grecian period.

ESCURSION TO SERRA SAN BRUNO AND FERRIERE DI MONGIANA

Early morning departure from Gagliato to Serra San Bruno. We will visit the famous Certosa, the first Carthusian monastery in Italy and the second in the whole Order, which is located in a picturesque forest on the outskirts of Serra San Bruno. The Museum of the Certosa faithfully reproduces the environments of the Carthusians and illustrates their mystique and working life in the Carthusian monastery. Free lunch (you are on your own). In the afternoon we will continue our trip by visiting Mongiana. Its origin is linked to the construction of the Regie Ferriere, wanted by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon to give impetus to the industrial activities of the Kingdom of Naples. In 1809 an arms factory was established where the famous Mongiana model rifle used by the army in Naples. Mongiano became a municipality in 1852 and suffered the heavy consequences of the unification of Italy that ended in the closure of its steel plants.

You can admire the remains of the Bourbon Foundries with one of the blast furnaces still visible, and the factory of arms with two Doric style columns that characterize the entrance, topped by a lintel, all made of cast iron.
