Barbara Lee Bass MD is Professor and Chairperson of the department of surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital. She is a general surgeon with a clinical practice in breast and endocrine surgery.
Her academic focus is on developing new methods and facilities to improve how surgeons are educated and trained to create a surgical workforce that will meet the needs of our societies as surgeons, researchers, and educators.
She is the current President of the American College of Surgeons and is leading initiatives to support training for surgeons in Africa and to raise awareness and to combat domestic violence in the healthcare professional workforce.
She has two sons: Wes and Wyatt, and 3 dogs: Skye, Summer, and Notorious P.I.G.
